Credit Score Karma

credit score karma
Question: Can you get a store credit card with this score?

I want to get a credit card from a store like best buy, compusa or sears but i want to know if my credit is good enough.

I just got a free Credit Score from Credit Karma and my score is 658

Is that good enough? and what store is it easier to get a card from?

Answer: Credit Karma is not going to give you your true FICO Score. For all you know that 658 they are quoting (based on what you provided as info, not what the credit reporting agencies have) in true FICO terms could be 600 or under.

If you are under 21, you are going to have a harder time getting credit. You have to prove income or have a cosigner now.

Credit Bureaus Part One

How many credit bureaus are there?

Most people know of three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. There are, however, four major credit bureaus. The four major credit bureaus are:

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion
  • Innovis (click here to read about Innovis credit bureau)
There were thousands of credit bureaus, what happened to those credit bureaus?

Once upon a time, there were more than three thousand credit bureaus. Now there are really only three major credit bureaus where you are likely to have a Credit Report on file with. The three are, as expected, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Click here to read about credit reporting agencies.

Experian

The Experian Credit Report begins with personal information and provides a report number you need for further correspondence about your Credit Report. The Experian Credit Report lists:

  • Potentially negative credit items. These negative credit items are past due accounts and judgments, bankruptcies, and liens.
  • Credit Items. This credit items listing is a listing of your creditor accounts and provides dates, status, and amounts.
  • Accounts in Good Standing. Accounts in Good Standing are accounts that are current and not overdue.
  • Requests for Your Credit History. This Requests for Your Credit History section in your Credit Report shows requests for information about you that affect your credit rating (those requests that you authorized) and requests that do not impact your Credit Score rating.
  • Personal Information. Personal information on your Credit Report includes your name, address, social security number, employers, and past addresses.
  • Your Personal Statement. Your Personal Statement is the space for a statement you can write explaining your Credit Report.
