Question: What is the best way to dispute errors on my Credit Report that are made to look like new delinquencies?

I have some items that are from around 2002 and 2003 when I made some credit mistakes and had some major delinquencies and then some charge-offs on a couple of credit cards. These have gone to collections under a different creditor name and acct # and these agencies are making it look like these are current delinquencies. I have a home loan, car loan, student loans and new credit cards that are all current... but these old items are lowering my Credit Score. I disputed one thru Credit Watch with Equifax, but the company denied the error and they kept it on. What do I do? Is it possible for these to be reported correctly as debt that is really several years old and not currently delinquent as they show?

Answer: Unfortunately the scoring models don't go by the fall off date but by the open date.
More than likely the open date they are reporting is the date they were assigned or purchased the debts. As long as they have not re-aged the original compliance date they are reporting correctly in that aspect.

If they are reporting any other inaccuracies (which they usually do) you might dispute those - such as past due, 1 month terms, factoring company account, etc., etc.
