Steps to follow
When you found errors on your credit report,
it is up to you to file credit report error correction
disputes. The followings are steps to take for credit
report error correction.
1. Request credit
report.
When you suspect that your credit report
may contain errors, you should request your credit report
immediately.
2. Review credit
report.
Once you have your credit report, you
should review your credit report and not any errors in
it.
3. Note errors in credit report, and
compile evidence you have that proves your
position.
Since it is up to you to prove that your
credit report contains erros, you should compile evidence
support your claim.
4. Send Letter Disputing
Credit.
The next step is to dispute any credit
report items you found to be incorrect. Filing credit
report disputes is easy nowadays. You can file a credit
report dispute online, by mail, or even by email. You
should not call the credit bureaus can dispute your credit
report items. Your credit report dispute may get lost in
the translation.
5. Begin log of
correspondence.
6. Wait 30 days.
7. If no response, send Second Request
for Reinvestigation.
8. Wait 30 days (or 45 days if you
provide additional information).
9. If no response, contact the FTC
(Federal Trade Commission).
10. Once the error has supposedly been
corrected, request a new copy of your credit
report.
